From Weed to Whiskey: Nana Lace Gets Real with Delay
He’s unpredictable, hilarious and unapologetically rawand when rapper Ablekuma Nana Lace sat down with media personality Delay fans got a deeper look at the man behind the eccentric freestyles and viral street charisma.
Known for rising to fame during the COVID-19 lockdown with his quirky fashion sense and off-the-cuff performances, Nana Lace used his time on The Delay Show to reflect on his past including a surprising and unfiltered confession about his four-year journey with marijuana.
I started in my early 30s, he admitted casually. I learnt how to smoke during my school days… you know, when you go to the club and someone gives you a cigarette to hold for them or tells you to try it? he explained drawing laughter from Delay.
“I was like, ‘Lemme hold on and try other stuff,’ he said with a straight face a moment that had Delay and viewers in stitches. Still, the rapper was serious about his decision, revealing that guilt eventually outweighed the creative boost he got from using weed.
Sometimes, when you’re smoking, your guilty conscience pricks you. So I felt it wasn’t good for me, so I decided to stick to cocktail,” he shared.
In his own unique way, Nana Lace replaced marijuana with alcohol-based cocktails, which he says sit better with his conscience. His candid confession added to his already unpredictable image, reinforcing the idea that he doesn’t fit into the conventional mold — and doesn’t intend to.
When asked how he feels about being labeled a weed boy by some members of the public, he brushed it off effortlessly.
I can’t think for them, he said coolly, cementing his stance as someone who lives life on his own terms.
In a world obsessed with image and conformity, Ablekuma Nana Lace continues to carve his own lane. His eccentricity may earn laughs, but his raw honesty strikes a chord. Whether he’s freestyling in traffic or sipping a cocktail on air, one thing is clear: Nana Lace is the real deal flaws, flair and all.
