Fred Acheampong Warns Sports Minister Kofi Adams: “Tone Down the Interviews”
A member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, Fred Acheampong, has advised the newly appointed Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, to be mindful of his public statements regarding sports-related issues.
According to Acheampong, Kofi Adams has been granting numerous media interviews about challenges in Ghana’s sports sector without first consulting key stakeholders like the GFA and the National Sports Authority (NSA).
Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, Fred Acheampong noted that while it is understandable that the minister wants to take action quickly, he should first engage with major institutions in the sports sector to have a better understanding of the challenges before making public pronouncements.
“Coming from a political background, he feels compelled to be seen taking action, but personally, I think the interviews are excessive. So far, he hasn’t achieved anything as sports minister, yet he’s been doing multiple interviews.”
Acheampong further suggested that Kofi Adams should conduct a thorough assessment by meeting with key stakeholders, such as the NSA, GFA, and other sports organizations, before making definitive statements about the state of Ghanaian sports.
“He [Kofi Adams] should have done a comprehensive interview after visiting various sectors like the NSA, GFA, and others. I think he could tone down, acquaint himself with the happenings, and speak from experience. Then he would understand why there are problems with the Black Stars.”
Since assuming office, Kofi Adams has been vocal about his vision for Ghana’s sports sector and has granted several interviews to address challenges facing football and other sporting disciplines.
However, some sports analysts and key figures in the industry believe the minister should reduce media engagements and focus more on executing policies to improve sports development in Ghana.
As discussions continue, stakeholders will be looking forward to seeing how Kofi Adams balances media engagements with practical efforts to address the challenges in Ghanaian sports.
