Bridget Otoo Officially Appointed as Presidential Staffer by President John Dramani Mahama
Renowned Ghanaian media personality and entrepreneur, Bridget Otoo has officially been appointed as a presidential staffer by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama. The announcement comes after months of widespread public speculation and online discussion surrounding her role in the new administration.
Bridget Otoo’s appointment follows her unwavering support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President Mahama during the 2024 election campaign. Throughout the campaign, her vocal contributions and firm stance on key national issues earned her praise from party supporters. Many Ghanaians had wondered why she had not immediately joined the administration after the NDC’s victory in January.
In a heartfelt statement on social media, Bridget addressed the delay, revealing that a serious health condition had kept her from taking up any formal position earlier. What was meant to be a routine health check unexpectedly led to a lengthy hospital stay, forcing her to put her professional plans on hold.
After the hard-fought campaign, I had always imagined celebrating our victory with the team, she wrote. But fate had other plans. I watched our victory from a hospital bed with my husband Van and his cousin Richard giving me real-time updates that rivaled the best newsrooms.
Now back on her feet and officially part of the government Bridget expressed deep gratitude to President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama for their continuous support. She also thanked Mrs. Joyce Bawa Mogtari Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to the President; Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Xoese Dogbe; and her immediate supervisor Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Fosu for their unwavering encouragement and guidance.
I am deeply honoured to be considered for a role in helping shape this government’s mandate. This appointment means the world to me especially after the difficult journey I’ve been through, she stated.
Bridget Otoo brings with her over a decade of experience in media and communications. In May 2025, she officially resigned from her position as a news anchor and presenter at Metro TV ending a successful three-year tenure. She had joined Metro TV in 2021 after taking a break from television in 2017 following her departure from Media General.
In addition to her media career Bridget is also a successful businesswoman. She ventured into the cement business and has established herself as a major entrepreneur in the industry. Despite her transition into business she has remained an influential voice in Ghana’s socio-political discourse, often using her platforms to advocate for truth, transparency and positive change.
Her appointment has sparked widespread reactions online, with many congratulating her and expressing excitement over the value she brings to the new administration. Others praised her resilience especially for returning stronger after her health setback.
Bridget Otoo has pledged to work diligently and prove herself worthy of the honour bestowed upon her. Ghanaians can expect the same boldness, energy and commitment that have defined her career so far now channeled into public service.
With this new chapter Bridget aims to contribute meaningfully to the government’s communication strategy and policy direction as part of President Mahama’s team. Her appointment represents a powerful example of how professionalism, consistency, and dedication to national development can open doors to greater service.
