Dr. Amoako Baah Announces Formation of New Patriotic Front, Calls on NPP Supporters to Join

Renowned political scientist and prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, has announced plans to launch a new political party, the New Patriotic Front (NPF), as a response to what he describes as the growing rot within the current leadership of the NPP.

In an exclusive interview with TV3 on April 14, 2025, Dr. Amoako Baah disclosed that the formation of the New Patriotic Front is intended to restore the true values and principles the NPP once stood for—values he claims have been lost due to corruption and incompetence among current party leaders.

We want to fix the party, but those involved in the wrongdoing are the ones in charge. Do you think they will willingly give you a chance to throw them out? No, they won’t, Dr. Baah said. “The shortest way around this thing is to form a new party.

According to the political scientist, the proposed New Patriotic Front will serve as the ideal political home for disillusioned NPP supporters and Ghanaians who are seeking ethical and effective leadership.

All NPP supporters should join the new party that is coming up—the New Patriotic Front. When it comes out, join. That will be the real party. The old one should be left for the corrupt leaders,” he emphasized.

Dr. Baah did not mince words as he placed a large portion of the blame for the NPP’s poor showing in the 2024 general elections on the shoulders of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He accused the former president of displaying arrogance and sidelining party members, including sitting Members of Parliament, during the campaign period.

If I were the chairman, I would have thrown him out of the party. Because no president should be given any power to do such a thing. Campaign against your own party members… does the party belong to him?” Dr. Baah questioned.

The NPP suffered a heavy defeat in the 2024 elections, with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) winning both the presidential race and a two-thirds majority in Parliament. Many party faithful and political analysts have since attributed the loss to growing dissatisfaction with the NPP’s leadership and governance record.

As the New Patriotic Front prepares for its official launch, political observers are closely watching to see how this development might reshape Ghana’s political landscape ahead of the 2028 general election
