Saddick Adams Criticizes High Salaries of State-Owned Company Managing Directors
Renowned media journalist Saddick Adams has raised concerns over the high salaries received by Managing Directors of State-Owned Companies (SOCs) in Ghana. Speaking on Angel TV’s Nyansapo show on Friday, February 7, 2025, he referenced a report by the Trades Union Congress (TUC), which revealed that these executives earn approximately GH₵80,000 per month—four times the salary of the President of Ghana.
Saddick Adams strongly criticized the massive earnings and benefits enjoyed by SOC executives, arguing that such high salaries contribute to Ghana’s financial struggles. He expressed shock at how government-appointed officials could earn significantly more than the President while the country faces economic challenges.
“How on earth are Managing Directors paid four times the salary of the President of Ghana? This does not need much explanation. The allowances they receive, according to the TUC report, amount to an enormous sum. Even the President does not earn GH₵80,000. Ghana needs a great change if this is how things will continue,” Saddick Adams stated.
While acknowledging that SOC executives deserve salaries for their work, he insisted that earning such high amounts raises serious questions about financial management in Ghana’s public sector. He also suggested that education and qualifications may play a role in determining salaries but maintained that the government should review these figures to ensure they align with the country’s financial realities.
His comments have sparked discussions about the need for salary reforms in Ghana’s public sector, with many calling for a balance between fair compensation and responsible financial management.
