Akuapem Poloo Reflects on Jim Iyke’s Sudden Exit from the 2024 Ghana Movie Awards

Ghanaian actress and social media personality Rosemond Brown, popularly known as Akuapem Poloo, has opened up about the unexpected departure of renowned Nigerian actor Jim Iyke during the 2024 Ghana Movie Awards.

In an interview with Zionfelix on January 24, 2025, Akuapem Poloo shared her perspective on the incident, expressing uncertainty about the exact reasons behind Jim Iyke’s exit. However, she speculated that the actor might have had unmet expectations regarding the event.

“Yes, Jim Iyke walked out of the event. But the reason behind it, I don’t know. Organizing an event like that is never easy. Maybe he was disappointed, but we all work in this industry, so sometimes you have to put yourself in someone else’s shoes,” Akuapem Poloo explained.

Despite the incident, Akuapem Poloo used the opportunity to rally support for Fred Nuamah, the founder of the Ghana Movie Awards, urging her colleagues and the public to embrace Ghanaian initiatives.

“The way people supported Nuamah in the past should continue. Ghanaians need to love and support their own. Our media and industry players should work together to strengthen our local entertainment industry,” she added.

The prestigious 2024 Ghana Movie Awards, held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), brought together numerous stars, including Adjetey Anang, Jackie Appiah, Akrobeto, Akuapem Poloo, and Nigerian actor Ramsey Nouah.

Akuapem Poloo herself was among the honorees of the night, taking home the “Discovery of the Year” award. Her win is a testament to her growing prominence in the Ghanaian film industry after a competitive run against other talented nominees.

Following the event, Jim Iyke took to his Instagram account to share his thoughts, describing his experience at the awards ceremony. In his post, he reflected on feeling out of place, saying, “I FELT LIKE FISH OUT OF WATER. HAVEN’T BEEN TO AN AWARD IN AGES.”

While his words indicate some level of discomfort, they also highlight the need for improved coordination and planning in Ghana’s entertainment industry to meet the expectations of high-profile guests.

The incident has sparked conversations within the industry about the importance of supporting local entertainment initiatives and addressing challenges in event organization. Akuapem Poloo emphasized that constructive feedback and collaboration are necessary to improve future events and elevate the Ghana Movie Awards to greater heights.

Despite the challenges, the 2024 Ghana Movie Awards successfully highlighted the achievements of talented Ghanaian filmmakers and actors, reinforcing the potential of the country’s creative arts industry on a global scale.

As the discussion around the awards continues, stakeholders and fans alike remain optimistic about the growth of Ghanaian cinema and its recognition on the world stage.
