Yvonne Nelson Credits Kelvin Kobiri for Supporting Her Film Production Journey

Award-winning Ghanaian actress and filmmaker, Yvonne Nelson has expressed her deep gratitude to Kelvin Kobiri for his crucial support in her early days as a movie producer. She revealed that Kobiri played a vital role in funding her first few projects when she ventured into film production.

Speaking on The Career Trail show on Joy News and Joy Learning TV, Yvonne shared how she transitioned into production after facing a significant career setback.

Yvonne’s decision to become a producer came after she was banned by the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG). During this challenging period, she met Kelvin Kobiri whom she described as a man who believed in her vision just like veteran producer Abdul Salam Mumuni had done earlier in her acting career.

I met a gentleman named Kelvin Kobiri. He is into ministry now.
He believed in me just like Abdul Salam believed in me. He funded my first two to three movies, she said.

Her journey into production was not without obstacles. Yvonne recounted how her first production was stolen after editing leaving her devastated.

The first production got stolen after editing.
Armed robbers entered the editor’s studio and stole all his drives. We lost everything we had shot. I believe it was sabotage, she revealed.

Despite this major loss, Yvonne refused to give up. With the support of Kelvin Kobiri, she pushed forward and successfully established her own production company, YN Productions.

Over the years, she has produced several acclaimed movies including Kotoka and Heels and Sneakers, cementing her reputation as a powerhouse in Ghana’s film industry.

Her story serves as an inspiration to many, proving that setbacks can be stepping stones to greater achievements with the right determination and support.
