Veteran Actor Fred Amugi Showcases Culinary Skills on GTV’s Breakfast Show

Veteran Ghanaian actor Fred Amugi has confidently declared that no woman can ever make him go hungry  not out of pride but due to his remarkable cooking skills which he has honed since childhood. Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show, Amugi made this bold and light-hearted claim while discussing his passion for food and culinary excellence.

According to the seasoned actor his signature dish is okro stew which he prepares in a unique way using coconut oil instead of the more commonly used palm oil. This twist he says, gives the dish a distinct flavor that sets it apart. Amugi’s love for cooking he revealed began at the age of nine. Under the guidance of his mother who sometimes assigned him weekly cooking duties or had him observe as she cooked, he gradually developed both skill and passion. His father’s advice that “whatever girls can do, he should be able to do too, also encouraged him to learn domestic skills which he carries with pride to this day.

Beyond his famed okro stew Amugi also boasted about his ability to pound and turn fufu all by himself  a testament to his mastery of traditional Ghanaian cuisine.

The actor appeared on the show to promote the upcoming stage play Ghana Must Go written and directed by celebrated playwright Latif Abubakar. The play is scheduled to premiere on May 24 -25, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
