Serwaa Amihere Breaks Down in Tears Over Daddy Lumba’s Death
Ghanaian journalist and media personality Serwaa Amihere has shared an emotional reaction following the passing of legendary highlife musician, Charles Kojo Fosu popularly known as Daddy Lumba.
The music icon died at age 61 after a short illness according to a statement released by his family on Saturday, July 26, 2025. His death has left many Ghanaians in deep shock and mourning.
Speaking during a heartfelt interview on Daddy Lumba FM, Serwaa Amihere a long-time fan and admirer of the late musician struggled to hold back her tears as she paid tribute to him.
It is not easy at all thinking about it and even accepting it. I am in denial. Unfortunately and sadly, it has happened, she said.
Serwaa described Daddy Lumba as more than just a music legend. To her, he was a father figure whose songs had a powerful emotional impact on her life.
He is an amazing soul and I am not saying this because he’s no more. I have consistently said that I have not felt any connection to any musician or singer like the one I feel for him. He moved from being someone whose music I loved to becoming like a father to me, she added.
She also spoke about how his influence remained strong despite not spending much time in Ghana.
Because he didn’t spend a lot of time in Ghana and lived mostly in Germany many people did not know him personally. But they knew this young man was immensely talented. He would release a song, and instantly, everyone would gravitate towards it.
Serwaa Amihere went on to describe Daddy Lumba as the greatest musician Ghana has ever produced.
I have said it, and I will always say it: Daddy Lumba is the greatest musician to come out of this country, and even beyond. The man is so good. So so good. His songs speak to the soul.”
She also called on the public to be respectful towards the bereaved family and urged Ghanaians to be sensitive in their comments.
Let’s give the family the space they need to grieve. Let’s show love and avoid saying things that may cause more pain.
Daddy Lumba’s passing has sparked an outpouring of grief, with fans and celebrities across Ghana and beyond paying tribute to his rich musical legacy. He is remembered for his timeless hits, unique voice and immense contribution to Ghana’s music industry.
