Retired Police Officer DCOP Kwasi Ofori to Drag NDC’s Mustapha Grande to Court Over Defamatio

A former Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Kwasi Ofori (Rtd.), has strongly criticized Mustapha Grande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, over allegations regarding the demolition of his building at Amrahia in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the retired police officer, Mustapha has persistently accused him on various media platforms, including Okay FM, of being responsible for the demolition of his storey-building. However, DCOP Ofori has refuted the claims, stating that the demolition was carried out on the orders of the court, and the police were only present to provide security for the exercise.

In an interview on Okay FM on February 10, 2025, DCOP Ofori revealed that Mustapha Grande had gone as far as threatening some police officers who were part of the security team, warning them that he would ensure their dismissal.

Expressing his displeasure over the matter, DCOP Ofori stated:

“The last time, he met some of the police officers and threatened them that he would sack them for providing security coverage for the demolition of his building. But in this country, there is a court system, and we, the police, are servants of the state. We just provided security; it was a court officer who was engaged in the demolition exercise, and the police were just ensuring peace and order.”

He further advised Mustapha Grande to act with maturity and seek redress in the right manner instead of resorting to political propaganda.

“I will plead with Mustapha that what he is doing is unnecessary. He is an educated person, and he should know better. He shouldn’t disgrace himself, his party, or the government. He should stick to the facts and not mix his personal issues with politics.”

DCOP Ofori emphasized that since Mustapha believes the demolition was illegal, he should proceed to court instead of making false claims in the media. The retired officer also announced his intention to sue Mustapha Grande for defamation.

“If he believes I demolished his building, he should go to court. I will also take him to court.”

The demolition of Mustapha Grande’s building at Amrahia is reported to have been carried out following a court order, but the NDC executive has insisted that it was orchestrated by DCOP Ofori during his time in office. The issue has since sparked controversy, with Mustapha calling for action against officers who were part of the operation.

As tensions rise, this case is likely to generate public interest, especially considering Mustapha Grande’s position in both the government and the NDC. With DCOP Ofori set to drag him to court, Ghanaians will be watching closely to see how the legal battle unfolds.
