Residents of Abura Dunkwa Cry Out Over Poor Roads, Demand Urgent Government Intervention
Abura Dunkwa, the district capital of the Abura Aseibu Kwamankese District in the Central Region is facing a major challenge as its roads continue to deteriorate, causing frustration among residents and motorists.
Despite being home to several key institutions including the district hospital, district police quarters, Aburaman Senior High School, Ghana Commercial Bank, fire service station, ambulance service, district court, district assembly, Electricity Company of Ghana district office, the District Chief Executive’s residence and many other administrative offices the condition of the town’s roads remains poor.
Residents who spoke to mrwoode.com expressed deep concern about the numerous potholes that make driving and commuting very difficult. They explained that during the rainy season the roads become muddy and almost impassable while in the dry season the dusty roads create health hazards for everyone in the town.
Drivers in the town also shared their frustrations explaining that the bad roads constantly damage their vehicles increasing maintenance costs and putting their lives and livelihoods at risk.
To understand what is being done about the situation, mrwoode.com spoke with some of the assembly members. Hon. Timothy Abban Junior, popularly known as Ice T of the Mangoase Adwenpayer Electoral Area, and Hon. Napoleon Nsarko Tawia of the Kotukotue Electoral Area said they have consistently raised the issue with the Member of Parliament for Abura Aseibu Kwamankese, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu who is also the Minister for Government Communications.
According to the assembly members the MP has assured them that he is working hard to resolve the issue and that a contractor will soon be deployed to begin fixing the roads. They further indicated that residents can expect the roadworks to be completed by the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, residents and drivers continue to appeal to the government to act swiftly to ease their daily struggles and ensure safe and smooth transportation within Abura Dunkwa.
The people believe that as the administrative hub of the district Abura Dunkwa deserves better infrastructure to match its status and support the essential services it provides to the surrounding communities.
