President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the strong bond between Ghana and Burkina Faso, stating that he does not need an invitation to visit the neighboring country. His remarks came during his recent visit to Burkina Faso, where he expressed gratitude to President Ibrahim Traoré for attending his inauguration.

Speaking during the visit, President Mahama emphasized the importance of mutual respect and African traditions, which value the expression of gratitude.

“Burkina Faso and Ghana are the same, so I don’t need any reason to come—I can come anytime I like. But by African tradition, we know that if your brother does you a favor, the next morning you have to come and say thank you,” Mahama said.

He recalled how, despite a busy schedule, President Traoré honored his invitation to attend his swearing-in ceremony. Mahama highlighted the gesture as a sign of deep respect, which he felt compelled to reciprocate through this visit.

“When he was leaving, I told him that I would come to Burkina Faso to say thank you. So I came here to thank him for coming to my inauguration. We had a long discussion on issues of mutual interest and how both Ghana and Burkina Faso can work together for the betterment of our countries. I believe our discussions will be fruitful,” he added.

The visit underscored the commitment of both nations to strengthen bilateral ties and collaborate on issues of shared interest, including security, trade, and regional development.
