Post-Election Poll: Majority Blame Akufo-Addo for NPP’s 2024 Defeat
A post-election poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that 68% of respondents hold former President Nana Akufo-Addo responsible for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections.
The survey provides insight into public sentiment regarding the party’s loss, with a significant number of voters also blaming other key government figures.
Beyond former President Akufo-Addo, the poll identifies several other figures whom voters hold accountable for the NPP’s electoral defeat:
• 40% blame former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta
• 37% hold Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate and former Vice President, responsible
• 33% point to Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, the running mate of Dr. Bawumia
• 32% blame other government appointees
• 25% believe NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) contributed to the loss
Interestingly, only 9% of respondents blame Kennedy Agyapong, who contested in the NPP’s presidential primaries but did not lead the party into the elections. This suggests that the blame is largely placed on individuals directly involved in the government’s administration.
The findings indicate that many voters viewed the performance of the Akufo-Addo-led government as a major reason for the NPP’s loss. Issues such as:
• Economic hardships
• Governance concerns
• Public dissatisfaction with leadership
The poll results highlight the challenges facing the NPP as it seeks to rebuild after its electoral loss. The party may need to reassess its leadership, policies, and approach to regain public trust and remain competitive in future elections.
As the political landscape evolves, these findings will likely spark internal discussions within the NPP on how to move forward and address voter concerns.
