Oliver Barker-Vormawor Alleges Akufo-Addo Government Plotted to Remove Dormaahene as a Judge

Prominent activist and lead convener of the FixTheCountry movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has alleged that the previous Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government, in collaboration with some elements in the Judicial Council, attempted to remove the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, from his position as a judge.

In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Barker-Vormawor claimed that the government sought to take action against the Dormaahene after he granted him bail in a politically motivated treason case.

“Do you know that the former government, with elements in the Judicial Council, actively sought to remove the Dormaahene as a judge simply because he granted me bail?” he wrote.

According to him, the government’s true intention was to “fix” him permanently, similar to how they allegedly treated ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzo, a senior police officer also accused in a previous treason trial.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor further alleged that when the government’s initial plan failed, efforts were made to reassign his case to Justice Ankomah, now a Court of Appeal judge, instead of the Dormaahene.

He claimed that the then Inspector General of Police personally visited Justice Ankomah to ensure that he remained in custody.

Criticism of the Judiciary and Former Attorney General

The activist accused the former government of intimidating judges and manipulating the judiciary to serve their interests.

“Every judge in this country lived in fear under their rule. They transferred any judge who refused to do their bidding and shamelessly promoted sycophants at will,” he stated.

Barker-Vormawor also criticized former Attorney General Godfred Dame, following his recent media response to reasons given by the current Attorney General, Dominic Ayine, for discontinuing some high-profile cases.

He argued that the judiciary had been politicized to the extent that many citizens no longer trust the courts to deliver justice fairly.

Describing the situation as a “cancer that must be removed regardless of political party,” Oliver Barker-Vormawor reiterated the need for judicial reforms to ensure fairness and independence in the justice system.

His allegations have since sparked public debate, with some demanding further investigations into the claims.
