National Security’s Request to Evacuate ECG Containers Sparks Public Debate

The National Security Secretariat has come under public scrutiny following the circulation of a confidential document dated March 7, 2025, from its Coordinator Osman Abdul-Razak requesting the evacuation of 706 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The letter addressed to the Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), instructed that port charges on the listed containers be suspended until investigations into missing ECG containers are concluded. Copies of the letter were also sent to the Minister of Transport and the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

The emergence of this document has sparked widespread discussions on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), with many Ghanaians raising concerns about the status of the over 1,300 ECG containers reported missing earlier. Some critics have questioned whether the 706 containers marked for evacuation are among those unaccounted for and why National Security is facilitating their transfer before providing a full account of the missing ones.

Adding to the controversy, the Minority Caucus in Parliament has called on National Security to disclose details regarding two mysterious flights that recently arrived in Ghana, allegedly linked to drug trafficking. The opposition lawmakers have urged the government to ensure transparency in both matters to maintain public trust.

As discussions intensify Ghanaians are demanding further clarification from the government regarding the missing ECG containers and National Security’s role in their evacuation. The situation remains a developing story, with many expecting an official response from relevant authorities.
