Mystery Deepens as More Missing ECG Containers Are Discovered at Atlas Dry Port
The controversy surrounding the disappearance of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers has taken a new twist as additional missing containers have been found at the Atlas Dry Port. The latest development has intensified public outcry and raised serious concerns about a possible large-scale theft operation.
In a shocking revelation Chief Superintendent Osman Alhassan Director of Investigations at the National Security Council has confirmed that several of the newly recovered containers show clear signs of tampering. Authorities now suspect that the missing electrical equipment, meant for national power distribution may have been stolen or compromised.
The issue first came to light when multiple ECG containers mysteriously disappeared from the Tema Port. These containers were supposed to carry essential electrical materials critical for power supply projects across the country. However, their disappearance sparked an investigation which eventually led authorities to the Atlas Dry Port.
The latest discovery at the dry port has deepened the mystery, with investigators finding that many of the recovered containers had been forcibly opened. Some seals were broken, and signs of tampering were evident, indicating unauthorized access.
Chief Superintendent Osman Alhassan has confirmed that security features on the containers had been compromised.
Our team has inspected several of the recovered containers, and we can confirm that seals have been broken, and some show visible attempts to disguise tampering. We are working closely with ECG officials to determine the extent of the theft or damage, he stated.
Authorities suspect that internal collusion may be involved, as moving and tampering with such large shipments without insider knowledge would be extremely difficult.
According to ECG’s standard protocol, containers transporting sensitive electrical equipment are supposed to be sealed, tagged, and monitored from the port to their final destination. Investigators have identified several security breaches, including:
• Broken or missing seals, indicating unauthorized entry.
• Forced entry marks and welding alterations suggesting efforts to conceal tampering.
• Inconsistent tracking records, raising suspicions of a possible cover-up.
These violations have raised serious questions about the integrity of the port’s security measures and the extent of insider involvement.
The revelation of additional missing ECG containers has triggered outrage among Ghanaians. Many are questioning how such a large quantity of national assets could go missing without immediate detection.
Energy sector analysts warn that if crucial electrical equipment has been stolen or damaged, it could cause delays in major national projects and weaken the country’s power distribution infrastructure. Some fear that ongoing electricity supply challenges could worsen if ECG is unable to replace the missing equipment in time.
In response to the growing crisis, the National Security Council, in collaboration with ECG and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has ramped up investigations. Several individuals, including port officials and logistics operators, are being questioned. Officials have hinted that arrests could follow as more evidence emerges.
With public pressure mounting, authorities are now working to uncover the full extent of the ECG container mystery. Ghanaians are demanding accountability, and many believe that only a thorough investigation and severe penalties for those responsible will restore confidence in the security of national assets.
As the investigation continues, the nation waits for answers—and for justice to be served.
