McDan’s Journey: From Street Hustler to Evangelist
Renowned Ghanaian entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr. Daniel McKorley popularly known as McDan has opened up about his humble beginnings and the future aspirations that continue to shape his inspiring journey. In a recent interview with NYDJ the celebrated business mogul offered a heartfelt reflection on his past experiences and what lies ahead for him after retirement.
McDan, who now stands as a symbol of entrepreneurial success in Ghana and across Africa revealed that his rise to prominence was rooted in grit determination and resilience. Long before founding the McDan Group of Companies, he was a street hustler who sold kerosene and bofrot (a popular local doughnut) to make ends meet.
I’ve done it all, he shared. I used to sell kerosene, bofrot and even worked as a mate (bus conductor) on the Accra-Madina route. Those experiences shaped my mindset and work ethic.
His candid recollection comes at a time when many young Ghanaians are seeking inspiration amid economic challenges. McDan’s story serves as a powerful reminder that success is achievable through perseverance, hard work, and a clear sense of purpose.
Beyond his business legacy, McDan shared his deep desire to give back in a more spiritual and agricultural capacity. When asked about his life after business, he revealed plans to focus on farming and evangelism—two passions he believes will allow him to continue impacting lives.
“I want to go into farming and preaching the word of God. Many people trust in churches and spend hours praying. My goal is to share the gospel and help people know God for themselves, McDan stated.
This vision reflects not only a commitment to national development through agriculture but also a personal calling to uplift souls spiritually. For a man who built an empire from the ground up, McDan’s focus on farming signals a return to the basics—contributing to food security and sustainability in Ghana.
McDan’s journey—from a kerosene seller and trotro mate to a respected billionaire and future evangelist—embodies the spirit of possibility. His story continues to inspire thousands across the continent, especially young entrepreneurs striving to overcome adversity.
As he transitions into a new phase of life McDan’s legacy appears set to go beyond boardrooms and business deals. Whether tilling the soil or spreading the gospel, his next chapter promises to be as impactful as his climb to the top.
