MC Portfolio Breaks Silence on GH₵5,000 Gift from Shatta Wale Amidst Loyalty Criticism

Ghanaian MC and media personality David Adjei Frimpong popularly known as MC Portfolio has addressed recent backlash over his acceptance of a GH₵5,000 cash gift from dancehall star Shatta Wale during a live TV appearance in Kumasi. The incident sparked criticism from sections of the public who questioned Portfolio’s loyalty to Stonebwoy an artist he has openly supported.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Ghana Weekend Spotlight with Jeffrey Fiifi Annan, MC Portfolio clarified that his actions were grounded in respect and professionalism not betrayal.

I don’t disrespect people. Shatta Wale be superstar. Am I going to embarrass Shatta Wale when he has given me the money on live TV? I took the money  I even left it for the band’s people, he explained.

The MC, who has worked extensively within the Ghanaian entertainment space revealed that he had collaborated with Shatta Wale in the past, including helping to coordinate the Kumerica Invasion project without charging a fee. According to him their history made it inappropriate to reject Shatta Wale’s public gesture especially on live television.

MC Portfolio also dismissed the idea that accepting the money signaled disloyalty to Stonebwoy. He emphasized that his loyalty is grounded in values and professional integrity not fanbase divisions.

That GH₵5,000 is nothing compared to the impact Stonebwoy’s recognition has had on my career, he said. I don’t ride on fanbase politics I ride on principles.

He further urged fans and industry observers to focus on unity and mutual respect in the entertainment industry rather than fueling unnecessary rivalries.

Portfolio’s comments come at a time when tensions between fanbases of top Ghanaian artistes remain high. His message reinforces the need for respect, maturity, and professionalism in the industry, regardless of affiliations.
