Martin Kpebu Calls for Disciplinary Action Against Former Attorney-General Godfred Dame
Renowned private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called for former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, to be brought before the General Legal Council for alleged misconduct in the controversial ambulance procurement case involving Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
Mr. Kpebu made these remarks during an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s evening news on Friday, February 15, 2025. He accused Mr. Dame of allegedly coaching a prosecution witness to lie against Dr. Ato Forson, an act he described as disgraceful and damaging to the legal profession.
“The Attorney-General’s role is to uphold justice, not manipulate it. Teaching a witness to lie is a serious violation and must not be tolerated,” Mr. Kpebu stated.
He further argued that such conduct was a betrayal of legal ethics and called on fellow legal practitioners to petition the General Legal Council to take disciplinary action against the former Attorney-General.
Expressing his disappointment in Mr. Dame’s tenure, Mr. Kpebu did not hold back, labeling him a “wicked lawyer” who allegedly used his position to tarnish the reputations of others. He went as far as to describe him as a “rogue Attorney-General”, accusing him of abusing his office for personal and political gains.
Mr. Kpebu’s comments came in response to Mr. Dame’s criticism of the current Attorney-General’s decision to discontinue some high-profile cases pending before the courts. Instead of questioning these decisions, Mr. Kpebu insisted that Mr. Dame should be held accountable for his own actions.
Mr. Kpebu believes that the General Legal Council, which is responsible for maintaining professional conduct within the legal fraternity, must investigate the allegations against Mr. Dame and take appropriate action if found guilty.
He emphasized that the legal profession must uphold fairness and integrity to maintain public trust in the justice system.
The call for disciplinary action against Godfred Yeboah Dame has sparked discussions within Ghana’s legal and political circles. Whether the General Legal Council will act
