Mahama Delivers First Hospital in 100 Days

Just three months into its tenure the Mahama administration has chalked a significant achievement with the commissioning of its first major health infrastructure—the newly constructed Kpone Municipal Hospital in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The Ministry of Health officially announced the inauguration via a post on X (formerly Twitter), hailing it as a critical step in the government’s development agenda.

Constructed in partnership with the Government of the Czech Republic, the state-of-the-art hospital was built by VAMED Health Projects CZ s.r.o., a renowned European healthcare infrastructure firm. The facility is set to dramatically improve access to quality healthcare services for thousands of residents within the municipality and beyond.

The Kpone Municipal Hospital boasts an impressive array of modern medical facilities, including:
• An Outpatient Department (OPD)
• A fully equipped Surgical Suite
• A Delivery Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
• A Medical Laboratory and Pharmacy
• A 40-bed inpatient ward

These additions mark a major boost to the municipality’s healthcare capacity. The facility is expected to reduce travel time and costs for residents who previously had to seek care in distant hospitals, while also enhancing emergency response and maternal healthcare services.

Healthcare experts have lauded the hospital as a transformative project, particularly for women and children. The inclusion of NICU and maternity services is anticipated to significantly reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the area.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, government officials emphasized the symbolic and strategic importance of the project. As the first major health facility launched under President Mahama’s new administration, it underscores the government’s pledge to prioritize health and infrastructure development from the very beginning of its term.

Officials also highlighted the crucial role of international cooperation in national development, commending the Government of the Czech Republic for its support in delivering the project.

This project exemplifies what we can achieve through strong partnerships and a focused vision. It is not only a facility but a promise fulfilled—to deliver quality healthcare where it is needed most,” a government spokesperson stated during the launch.

With the successful commissioning of the Kpone Municipal Hospital, expectations are high for more infrastructure projects in health, education, and other sectors under the current administration.

As Ghana continues to address critical gaps in healthcare access and service delivery, initiatives like this are seen as pivotal in advancing national health outcomes and achieving sustainable development goals.
