Mac Jerry Osei Agyeman Criticizes Majority Leader, Blames NPP’s Defeat on Internal Issues.
Prominent Ghanaian journalist and morning show host of Neat FM, Mac Jerry Osei Agyeman, has expressed his disappointment in the Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Efutu, Alexander Adenya-Markin, over his handling of issues related to some New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs who chose to contest as independents in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Neat FM, Mac Jerry stated that he was deeply disappointed in the Majority Leader’s approach when these MPs decided to go independent. He believes the situation was not well managed, which eventually contributed to the NPP’s poor performance in the 2024 elections.
His comments came in the wake of a chaotic scene in Ghana’s Parliament, where members of the Minority reportedly vandalized parliamentary property, including tables and microphones, following a disagreement with the Majority side during the vetting of ministerial nominees.
According to Mac Jerry, even if it was true that both sides had initially agreed to vet three nominees but the Clerk of Parliament later added two more, that did not justify the destruction of state property. He condemned the act and urged MPs to resolve their differences in a more civilized manner.
Touching on the NPP’s electoral defeat, Mac Jerry asserted that the party needs to conduct an honest assessment of why Ghanaians voted against them in 2024. He believes the failure to address internal issues and the lack of truth within the party contributed significantly to their loss.
He further pointed out that former NPP MP for Lower West Akim, Gifty Klenam, has now joined the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) due to similar unresolved issues within the NPP. He cautioned that if the party does not address these concerns, more members could defect in the future.
Mac Jerry’s remarks highlight ongoing tensions within the NPP and the Ghanaian Parliament, raising concerns about political stability and the need for constructive dialogue in governance.
