Lawyer Adomako Baafi Criticizes Mahama Administration Over Ashanti Region Representation
Prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator, Lawyer Adomako Baafi, has expressed disappointment over what he describes as the neglect of the Ashanti Region in President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
Speaking on the Wontumi Morning Show on Wontumi TV on February 3, 2025, Lawyer Baafi argued that considering the performance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region during the 2024 elections, the region deserved a cabinet position. He particularly singled out retired Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye, whom he believes was sidelined despite his active role in the NDC’s campaign.
Lawyer Baafi criticized the decision to appoint COP (Rtd) Kofi Boakye as Director of Operations at the Presidency instead of National Security Coordinator. He described the position as being equivalent to a “mere watchman” role and suggested that the NDC did not appreciate Boakye’s contributions.
“Kofi Boakye played a vital role during the campaign, yet he has been relegated to a minor role. He should have known that the NDC would not truly value him,” Baafi stated.
Baafi also took issue with comments made by Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Minister. He accused Dr. Amoakohene of trying to discredit the achievements of his predecessor, Simon Osei Mensah, by suggesting that he left behind debts rather than development projects.
According to Baafi, instead of focusing on political propaganda, Dr. Amoakohene should be addressing the key developmental challenges in the region. He urged Simon Osei Mensah to hold a press conference to showcase his achievements and counter what he sees as an attempt to tarnish his record.
In a broader political statement, Lawyer Baafi advised all former NPP ministers to stay vigilant and counter what he perceives as propaganda from the Mahama administration. He believes there is an effort to rewrite history and paint the previous government in a negative light.
“The former ministers must not allow their hard work to be undermined. They should be proactive in defending their records,” he urged.
