Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of The Insight Newspaper Kwesi Pratt Jr. has expressed deep concerns about the handling of the murder case of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale. Speaking on Pan African TV on March 22, 2025 he questioned the decisions made by the investigating authorities and the judiciary regarding the case.
Kwesi Pratt Jr. criticized the decision of the court to reference a well-known politician linked to the case without revealing their identity. According to him this lack of transparency raises serious concerns about fairness and accountability.
We are told that somehow there’s a leading popular politician whose name has come up in the investigation and we’re not told who this person is. This high-profile politician is being protected. The name is not even being made available to the public. His image is being protected. Are these the investigating authorities we’re talking about? Are these the courts we’re talking about? Very interesting developments, he remarked.
Another major issue Kwesi Pratt Jr. highlighted was the decision by the court to grant bail to a suspect in the case despite reports that he previously fled the country. He questioned how someone accused of such a serious crime could be allowed to walk free on bail.
Media reports of the case claimed that the suspect in Ahmed Suale’s murder case disguised himself ran out of the country and came back clandestinely. He was arrested in a hair salon was taken to court and has been granted bail. What an amazing story? Do you get what I’m driving at? he quizzed.
According to him a person with a history of evading justice should not be granted bail as there is a high risk of them absconding again.
I am not a lawyer. I’m just a layman but if there’s evidence that somebody has been arrested for such a high-profile crime and he actually disguised himself and ran out of the country and sneaked back into the country there is a high probability of that person jumping bail. You don’t have to be a lawyer to understand this but the courts have granted him bail, he lamented.
Kwesi Pratt Jr.’s concerns add to the ongoing national conversation about justice for Ahmed Suale who was shot and killed in 2019 while investigating corruption cases. Many Ghanaians have called for a fair and transparent investigation to ensure that those responsible for his murder are brought to justice.
As the case unfolds the Ghanaian public continues to demand answers, particularly regarding the identity of the politician mentioned in the investigation and the rationale behind granting bail to a suspect accused of fleeing justice.
