Kumawood Stars Criticize Kwame Nkrumah Tikese

A storm of controversy has erupted in Ghana’s entertainment and political landscape as some of the country’s most renowned Kumawood actors have taken a strong stance against popular radio presenter, Kwame Nkrumah Tikese. The media personality, known for his outspoken and often controversial views, has come under intense criticism for allegedly disrespecting the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, during a recent broadcast.

Reports indicate that Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, who hosts a show on Despite Media’s Okay FM, made remarks about the Regional Minister that many found offensive and inappropriate. His comments have sparked outrage, particularly among Kumawood stars, who argue that such behavior is unacceptable and sets a negative example for the younger generation.

Leading the charge against the radio presenter are well-known actors such as Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win, Kwaku Manu, and Matilda Asare. These industry figures have publicly called for Tikese to retract his statements and issue a formal apology, emphasizing that leaders—regardless of political affiliation—deserve respect, especially in the Ashanti Region, where cultural values and reverence for authority are highly esteemed.

In a video statement, Lil Win stressed the importance of media personalities maintaining decorum when speaking about people in authority.

“We all support freedom of speech, but that does not give anyone the right to insult leaders. The Ashanti Region is known for its deep respect for leadership, and we cannot allow anyone to tarnish that reputation,” Lil Win said.

Kwaku Manu echoed similar sentiments, warning that if such trends continue, they could create unnecessary tensions between the media and government officials.

“Journalists and presenters should be responsible with their words. If we normalize disrespect in public discourse, it will only create division and make constructive engagement difficult,” he noted.

The backlash against Kwame Nkrumah Tikese has reignited debates about responsible journalism and the ethical boundaries that media personalities must observe when discussing political issues. While some social media users have defended the radio host’s right to free speech, others insist that media figures should exercise restraint and avoid comments that could be deemed disrespectful.

Supporters of the Ashanti Regional Minister believe that the condemnation from Kumawood actors sends a strong message about the importance of upholding Ghanaian cultural values, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where respect for authority is deeply ingrained.

As pressure mounts, industry watchers are keenly observing whether Kwame Nkrumah Tikese will respond to the growing calls for an apology. His remarks have not only stirred controversy but have also sparked a broader conversation about the responsibilities of media personalities in Ghana.

For now, the clash between Kumawood actors and the outspoken radio presenter highlights the delicate balance between freedom of speech and respect for authority—an issue that continues to shape Ghana’s media and political discourse.
