Keche Highlights the Media’s Role in Artiste Success, Advises Fellow Musicians
Ghanaian music duo Keche has stressed the crucial role the media plays in the success of musicians. Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM with Dr. Pounds the group urged fellow artistes to remain humble and appreciate the media’s influence on their careers.
During the interview Keche stated that an artiste’s fame and longevity in the music industry are heavily dependent on media support. They cautioned against the tendency of some artistes to overlook or disrespect the media once they achieve a certain level of stardom.
No one is a star without the media. If you believe you are greater than the media that perspective is misguided. Without the media you are essentially unknown and without us the media also lacks significance. It’s important not to boast or show off to the media in an attempt to prove your stardom. Instead, you should approach it with humility, they emphasized.
According to Keche building a strong relationship with media houses and journalists is vital for maintaining relevance in the industry. They encouraged their colleagues to embrace the media as partners rather than viewing them as mere promoters.
Keche also shared an interesting story about how they arrived at their current stage name. They revealed that Keche was not their original choice and that they had experimented with several other names before settling on it.
Keche wasn’t our original name. We started with the name Afoforo but it did not work. We then tried Chop Bar’ but it did not work for us. After that we went on to ‘The One’ before settling on the name Keche.
The duo credited renowned sound engineer Kaywa and the late musician Castro for helping them choose the name Keche which has now become a household brand in the Ghanaian music industry.
Keche expressed their appreciation to the media for their continuous support and advised up-and-coming artistes to respect the platforms that help push their music. They emphasized that humility and gratitude toward the media would ensure long-term success in the industry.
As one of Ghana’s most consistent music groups, Keche’s insights serve as a reminder of the mutual relationship between artistes and the media, proving that collaboration and respect are key to a successful music career.
