Kantamanto Market Traders Express Gratitude for Government Support After Fire Outbreak.

Traders at Kantamanto Market in Accra have expressed their appreciation to the government for providing financial and resource support following the devastating fire that ravaged parts of the market in early January 2025.

The fire, which destroyed several shops and stalls, left many traders struggling to recover. However, in the aftermath of the tragedy, the government stepped in to assist affected traders, fulfilling its commitment to providing financial relief and helping them rebuild their businesses.

In an interview with Happy FM, one of the traders praised the government’s intervention, describing it as timely and impactful.

“This government that has come, they have really helped Ghana. My thrift clothes business is now going well. The government fulfilled its promise to help the traders, and they were true to their word. We thank them all greatly for their support.”

She further revealed that she received GH¢2,500 as part of the compensation package, which has helped her get back on her feet.

“The government has really done well. I got some monetary compensation of GH¢2,500. If I said I didn’t have, I would be lying.”

Many other traders have echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging the government’s role in helping them recover from their losses.

With reconstruction efforts completed, Kantamanto Market has resumed full operations, restoring normalcy for traders and ensuring the continuation of business activities. The renovated market now provides a safer and more secure environment for trading, giving traders the confidence to rebuild their livelihoods.

The government’s swift intervention has been widely appreciated, as it has not only supported traders financially but also facilitated the rapid reconstruction of the market.

As traders settle back into their businesses, they are hopeful for continued government support in ensuring market safety and stability. Many are also calling for additional measures to prevent future fire outbreaks, including improved fire safety systems and better infrastructure.

The recovery of Kantamanto Market serves as a testament to the resilience of Ghanaian traders and the importance of government intervention in times of crisis. With businesses now back in operation, traders can look forward to a brighter future.
