Kaakyire Kwame Appiah Says Singing for Political Parties Is Not About Money
Veteran Ghanaian highlife musician Kaakyire Kwame Appiah has cleared the air regarding his involvement in political campaigns stating that his support for political parties is not motivated by money but rather by the policies they promote.
Speaking in an interview with Ohema Woyeje on Angel FM’s “Y’aduma Nie,” the renowned singer revealed that his public endorsement of political parties through music is a personal choice rooted in what he believes is best for Ghana and its people.
I am a real politician. If you see me singing for any political party it’s not because of money. Sometimes it’s because of the policies. I can vote for NPP (New Patriotic Party) today, but in the next election, I’ll vote for another party if their policies benefit Ghanaians, he stated in the interview monitored by mrwoode.com.
Kaakyire Kwame Appiah also disclosed that he has been a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since 1992. While many have speculated about his potential political ambitions the musician clarified that although he has considered running for office his commitment to his music career has kept him from entering active politics.
If there is a chance to seek any position in government, I can, but I don’t want to because I’m very busy,” he emphasized.
His remarks come at a time when many celebrities face scrutiny over their affiliations with political parties, often being accused of endorsing parties for personal gain. Kaakyire Kwame Appiah’s statement serves as a reminder that not all endorsements are driven by money some are grounded in a genuine belief in policies that promise national development.
The veteran artiste continues to remain relevant in both music and public discourse using his platform to share his perspectives on governance, leadership, and the role of artists in national development.
