Joyce Bawah Mogtari Calls for a ‘Sexier’ Agriculture to Empower Ghana’s Youth
Presidential Aide and Senior Advisor to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has emphasized the urgent need to rejuvenate Ghana’s agricultural sector by making it more attractive and engaging for the youth.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Woezor TV on Sunday, 20th April 2025, Madam Mogtari stressed that agriculture must be rebranded not just as a means of survival, but as a smart, innovative, and lucrative career option for Ghana’s young population.
All we want to do is to make agriculture sexier and more engaging for the youth to be able to build something for themselves, she stated, adding that a transformed agricultural sector could become a major catalyst for youth empowerment and national growth.
She outlined that under a future John Mahama administration, policies would focus on modernizing agriculture through youth-led agribusiness initiatives, access to credit, and enhanced market opportunities. According to her, this shift in strategy will reposition agriculture at the heart of Ghana’s development agenda.
Mogtari also criticized the current system for failing to harness the full potential of the agricultural value chain. “We believe the youth must see agriculture not as a last resort, but as a pathway to building sustainable livelihoods and generational wealth,” she said.
Interestingly, this vision ties in with broader efforts by various Ghanaian leaders and influencers—including those like Mr. Woode of mrwoode.com and the host of Mr Woode Studios, who has used his platform to promote impactful conversations around sustainable development, job creation and national identity. As agriculture continues to be a backbone of Ghana’s economy, its transformation could mirror similar national movements seeking to blend tradition with innovation.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari concluded by urging the youth to embrace this new vision and assured them of John Mahama’s commitment to placing them at the center of Ghana’s transformation.
