Janet Nabla Urges Mahama to Remove Kwakye Ofosu Over Drug Flight Allegations

Chairperson of the People’s National Party (PNP) Janet Asana Nabla has made a bold call on former President John Dramani Mahama to relieve Felix Kwakye Ofosu of his duties as a spokesperson, following recent public controversies over drug trafficking allegations involving aircraft that transited through Ghana.

The issue has sparked national debate after a fiery online clash between Felix Kwakye Ofosu who also serves as the Minister for Government Communications under the opposition’s shadow government, and Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee. During a heated exchange on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Kwakye Ofosu described Rev. Fordjour as a clown intensifying public criticism over the handling of the alleged narcotics-related flights.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show Janet Nabla expressed deep concern about the tone and content of Kwakye Ofosu’s communication. She particularly took issue with a recent official response from the Office of the former President which she claimed dismissed the serious allegations without offering satisfactory answers.

If someone tries so hard to convince people it creates more doubt, Nabla said. Every single flight that passes through Ghana’s borders must go through all security checks. How were two flights checked and the third wasn’t?

Ms. Nabla warned about the implications of drug trafficking on Ghana’s reputation and its impact on the youth, stressing the need for transparent and responsible communication from public figures, especially those speaking on behalf of presidential candidates.

“Felix Kwakye Ofosu isn’t just communicating for Mahama, but for all of Ghana, she stated. “We don’t need people who don’t tell the truth as communicators.”

The controversy centers around recent reports that two international flights suspected of drug trafficking passed through Ghana and were investigated, while a third allegedly bypassed standard procedures. Government critics have raised questions about potential lapses in security and demanded accountability.

While former President Mahama has yet to issue a formal response to Ms. Nabla’s call, the matter continues to dominate discussions on national platforms as Ghanaians seek clarity and assurance ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Ms. Nabla’s comments have added pressure on Mahama’s communication team to adopt a more transparent and professional approach in addressing sensitive national issues.
