I Have Dined with the Devil Before  Mustapha Gbande Opens Up About His Spiritual Journey

Mustapha Gbande the Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency has made headlines following a bold and spiritually charged revelation during an interview on Joy Prime on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. The outspoken political figure stated that he had once dined with the devil a phrase he used to describe his past life experiences and spiritual battles.

Gbande made the statement while discussing the depth of his Christian faith. According to him there is a clear distinction between Sunday school Christians and believers who have encountered real spiritual warfare.

Much as I am a good Christian I am not a Sunday school Christian. There is a difference. You may be a Sunday school Christian because you have never encountered the devil. I have seen and dined with the devil before. Of course I have done things in my life, he said.

When asked to clarify his controversial remark Gbande explained that it was a metaphor for the dark experiences he has gone through in life experiences that have shaped his understanding of faith, redemption and God’s grace.

Sunday school Christians take Jesus Christ and God for granted. But those of us who have dined with the devil understand what it takes to receive salvation, he added.

Gbande’s comments seem to be a critique of superficial or lukewarm faith especially among those who have never experienced deep spiritual or moral challenges. He emphasized that true believers whether Christian or Muslim are those who appreciate salvation because they know what it feels like to be lost and then found.

The deputy director’s remarks have sparked conversations about the depth of personal faith and the importance of not taking God’s mercy lightly. While some may view his words as controversial others see them as a powerful testimony about the realities of life temptation, and spiritual growth.

Gbande’s story serves as a reminder that spiritual transformation often comes through real struggle and adversity and not just from religious routine.

As reactions continue to pour in across social media and within political and religious circles, one thing is clear: Mustapha Gbande has stirred a necessary conversation about the difference between religion and true spirituality.
