Hearts of Oak’s Struggles Continue with 1-0 Defeat to Nations FC

Accra Hearts of Oak’s poor run of form in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League continued as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Nations FC in an outstanding Matchday 21 fixture.

The tense encounter took place at the Tuba Astroturf, where both teams battled for supremacy. After a goalless first half, the breakthrough came in the 65th minute when Black Stars defender Razak Simpson fired a stunning strike past the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, securing all three points for Nations FC.

Despite an intense push for an equalizer, the Phobians struggled with their finishing. They managed 16 shots compared to Nations FC’s 13, but only six were on target—all expertly saved by the visiting goalkeeper. Nations FC, on the other hand, had just four shots on target but capitalized on their key opportunity to claim victory.

The defeat extends Hearts of Oak’s winless streak to four games, adding to the pressure on head coach Aboubakar Ouattara. The team has now slipped further behind their arch-rivals and league leaders, Asante Kotoko, who hold an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

With this victory, Nations FC moves up to fourth place with 39 points, while Hearts of Oak drops to sixth with 37 points.

Nations FC will look to maintain their momentum when they host Karela United at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak will attempt to bounce back when they face Medeama SC at the Accra Sports Stadium this weekend.

As the league enters a crucial stage, Hearts of Oak must find solutions to their struggles if they hope to revive their title ambitions.
