Government Sets Up 12-Member Committee to Address Looming Power Crisis.

The Member of Parliament for Abura Aseibu Kwamankese Felix Kwakye Ofosu Constituency, who also serves as the acting spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, has announced the establishment of a 12-member committee tasked with addressing the potential power crisis in Ghana.

This proactive measure comes amidst growing concerns about the nation’s energy supply, which could face disruptions if urgent steps are not taken. The committee, comprising experts from both financial and technical sectors, has been mandated to develop a comprehensive roadmap to resolve the issues threatening Ghana’s power stability.

Speaking to the press, the MP emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a stable power supply for all Ghanaians. “This committee will tackle both financial and technical challenges, ensuring we secure Ghana’s energy future. The government is determined to prevent any disruptions to power supply,” he said.

The committee will be chaired by Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency, who is renowned for his extensive experience in energy policy and management. Under his leadership, the committee is expected to propose sustainable solutions to the country’s power challenges.

The roadmap developed by the committee will address:

1. Financial Sustainability – Strategies to clear debts owed to power generation and distribution companies.
2. Technical Optimization – Measures to improve efficiency in power generation, transmission, and distribution.
3. Energy Diversification – Exploration of alternative energy sources, including renewable energy, to ensure long-term stability.

The acting spokesperson assured Ghanaians that the government remains committed to fulfilling its promises of reliable electricity for households, businesses, and industries.

“The president has confidence in this team to deliver actionable solutions that will protect the nation from future energy crises. We understand the critical role electricity plays in economic growth and are taking every necessary step to safeguard it,” he added.

Hon. Jinapor, in a brief statement, expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and promised to lead the committee with dedication. “The task ahead is challenging but achievable. Together, we will work tirelessly to ensure that Ghana’s power sector remains robust and resilient,” he stated.

Ghanaians are hopeful that this initiative will avert a power crisis and further strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure. The committee’s findings and recommendations are expected to be presented to the government within the coming weeks.
