Gordon Asare-Bediako Fires Back at Prof. Frimpong Boateng Over ‘Demons in NPP’ Comment

Veteran Ghanaian journalist Gordon Asare-Bediako has issued a fierce rebuttal to former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, following the latter’s controversial remarks about the New Patriotic Party (NPP) being influenced by demons.

In a recent interview on Movement TV, Gordon challenged Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s moral authority to make such a claim, accusing the former minister of hypocrisy and self-righteousness. This comes after Prof. Boateng called for a mass resignation of NPP executives, alleging that the party’s current leadership is under the control of dark forces that threaten its credibility and future.

Prof. Boateng, who also chaired the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), stated that unless these so-called demons are removed from leadership positions, the NPP’s prospects would continue to decline.

Responding to these comments, Gordon Asare-Bediako minced no words.

If you say there are demons in the NPP, then you must be a principality, he said, taking a direct jab at the former minister. You did worse than the demons in the NPP. You are part of the reason galamsey increased in Ghana.

The journalist accused Prof. Frimpong Boateng of failing in his role to combat illegal mining during his tenure, despite heading the government’s task force on the matter. Gordon claimed that under the professor’s watch, galamsey activities actually worsened, undermining the credibility of the former minister’s criticisms.

He went further to describe Prof. Boateng as a dubious man who is bitter and envious, suggesting that the recent outburst stems from unresolved frustrations and personal disappointment, rather than a genuine concern for the party or the nation.

The exchange has sparked fresh conversations within political and media circles, with some defending Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s right to critique the party he once served, while others question his legacy, particularly regarding Ghana’s fight against environmental degradation.

As tensions rise in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections, such public disagreements among current and former NPP members could influence internal dynamics and public perceptions of the party.
