Ghana Needs a Business-Minded Leader in 2028 :Benjamin Takyi Addo

The Director of Communications for the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Association Benjamin Takyi Addo, has made a bold call for a new direction in Ghana’s political leadership ahead of the 2028 General Elections. In an exclusive interview with mrwoode.com, Mr. Addo passionately advocated for the election of a trader or a successful entrepreneur to lead the nation into a new era of economic discipline and practical governance.
According to him, the time has come for Ghanaians to consider leaders who have real-life experience in managing businesses, dealing with economic realities and delivering results not just political rhetoric.
I speak not only as the Head of Communications for the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Association but also as a proud Ghanaian, deeply rooted in the day-to-day hustle and dreams of the ordinary citizen, Mr. Addo stated.
He emphasized that the country’s economic heartbeat lies in its markets, shops, farms and workshops places where traders and entrepreneurs drive growth through hard work, sacrifice and resilience.
As we look ahead to the 2028 elections, I strongly believe it is time for Ghana to consider a new kind of leadership one grounded in practical experience, economic discipline and results, he said.
Traders understand survival. Businesspeople understand growth. They deal with profit and loss every day. They understand budgeting, accountability, negotiation, and above all delivery. In our world, if you don’t deliver, you lose trust. You lose business. And you fail.
Mr. Addo argued that the same principles that guide successful businesses should be applied to national governance focusing on efficiency, cutting waste, creating jobs and ensuring that leaders are held accountable for tangible outcomes.
He praised Ghanaian entrepreneurs, artisans, market women and other small business owners for their contribution to the economy, stating that they possess the skills and discipline required to lead the country effectively.
Our market women, spare parts dealers, cocoa farmers, welders, tailors and tech entrepreneurs, they are the heartbeat of this economy. Imagine a president who has walked in their shoes, he said.
Mr. Addo was, however, quick to clarify that this is not a call for just any businessperson to lead the country but for one with integrity, vision and proven excellence someone who can run Ghana like a thriving business.
We respect the politicians, the academics and the technocrats. They have played their part. But perhaps it is time to try something different something daring.
He concluded by urging Ghana’s youth, traders, artisans and all citizens who feel left out of national leadership to see themselves as valuable contributors to the future of Ghana.
Let us begin the conversation. Let us build the movement. Let us shape a future led by competence not just promises. Ghana is ready. And 2028 can be the year we rewrite our story.”
As political conversations begin to heat up ahead of the 2028 elections, this call from one of the country’s key industry voices may spark meaningful debate about the kind of leadership Ghana truly needs in the next chapter of its development.
