Ghana Association of Banks Football League Set to Kick Off in June with Trophy Tour Visit to GCB Bank

The much-anticipated sixth edition of the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) Football League is set to commence in June 2025, with preparations already underway to bring together top talents from the nation’s banking sector. As part of pre-tournament activities, the GAB delegation embarked on a trophy tour, making a special stop at Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) on Thursday to formally invite the institution to participate and to showcase the coveted trophy.

The trophy tour, which will cover all 20+ participating banks, aims to stir excitement ahead of the competition and give banking staff and teams the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the ultimate prize in interbank football.

Receiving the delegation at GCB Bank, Mr. Emmanuel Odartey Lamptey, the Deputy Managing Director of Operations (DMD, Ops), expressed his appreciation to GAB for spearheading the initiative. He emphasized the importance of such sporting events in promoting teamwork, interbank collaboration, and the physical well-being of banking professionals.

This is a brilliant initiative. Given the sedentary nature of our work, the health benefits of physical activity like football cannot be overstated. It also presents a great opportunity to strengthen professional relationships between institutions,” Mr. Lamptey stated.

Mr. Lamptey reaffirmed GCB Bank’s unwavering commitment to supporting meaningful causes, including sports, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. He drew a connection between the Bank’s strong market presence and its continued efforts to contribute positively to Ghana’s socio-economic development.

He further assured the GAB of GCB Bank’s full support and participation in the league, while issuing a friendly warning to rival banks.

The GCB Bank sports team is known for their gallant display of dexterity and aplomb in various competitions. Organisers and participants should expect nothing but the best—we’re coming to win and maintain our record streak,” he added with confidence.

The GAB Football League has become a flagship event in the banking calendar, promoting health, networking, and unity among financial institutions. This year’s edition is expected to feature even more excitement and competitiveness, as banks prepare to showcase their finest talents on the pitch.

With the official kickoff set for June and the trophy tour building momentum, anticipation is high as the participating banks gear up for a thrilling tournament.
