Erosion Threatens Newly Constructed Mallam Bola Road

The Mallam Bola Road a vital route constructed in the latter part of December 2024, is already showing signs of severe damage due to erosion sparking concern among residents and commuters who depend on the road for daily transportation.

The road stretches from the Mallam Bola Road Junction to the Bola Road Last Stop and serves as a crucial alternative route for drivers traveling from Accra Central, Circle, Lapaz, Madina, and other parts of Accra heading toward Kasoa, Cape Coast, Takoradi, and other areas in the Central and Western Regions. It also connects to McCarthy Hill and the Akaway Government Hospital making it an important link for both commuters and emergency services.

Unfortunately less than a year after its construction the road has started deteriorating. Erosion has already begun to eat away at sections of the road, raising fears that it may become impassable if urgent action is not taken.

Residents living along the road have expressed their disappointment and frustration. According to them they organized several demonstrations over the years before the road was finally constructed. Now they fear their efforts will go to waste if the damage is not addressed promptly.

We fought so hard for this road. We protested, we marched and we spoke to the media countless times. It was a huge relief when it was finally constructed. But now seeing it in this state just a few months later is heartbreaking, one resident shared.

The community is appealing to the appropriate authorities, including the Department of Urban Roads and the Weija Gbawe  Municipal Assembly to step in and repair the road before the damage becomes extensive and costly.

Many drivers who use this route daily have also called on the government to act swiftly. With the Mallam Junction area often experiencing heavy traffic congestion this alternative route plays a critical role in easing movement within the capital and beyond.

The public is urging the government to not only fix the current damage but also ensure that long-lasting drainage systems are put in place to prevent future erosion.

As the rainy season continues, residents fear the situation will worsen if immediate intervention is not carried out. The call is clear the Mallam Bola Road needs urgent attention to preserve its importance and ensure the safety of road users.
