EC Ready to Finalize Collation of Ablekuma North Parliamentary Results – Fred Tetteh
Accra, February 8, 2025 – The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that it is prepared to finalize and declare the parliamentary results for Ablekuma North, pending adequate security arrangements.
Speaking in an interview on Citi FM, Fred Tetteh, the Deputy Director of Research at the EC, stated that the Commission is ready to complete the collation process once security concerns are addressed.
Collation of results for Ablekuma North was initially halted due to security threats. A High Court ruling on January 4, 2025, directed the EC to resume and conclude the collation of four outstanding parliamentary elections, with Ablekuma North being the last constituency to be finalized.
The process restarted on January 8, 2025, but was disrupted due to incomplete results from three polling stations. It was rescheduled for January 17, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., but intelligence reports led the Ghana Police Service to advise against proceeding, causing further delays.
In a statement issued on January 17, the EC noted that inadequate security at the collation center had allowed party supporters to invade the venue, further disrupting the process.
Fred Tetteh emphasized that the EC has taken proactive measures to prevent similar incidents.
“We have written to the police to provide security for us because we don’t want what happened on January 17 to reoccur. We are just waiting for the police to provide us with security, then we can go ahead with those three polling stations. The results are ready for us to just add up and declare the winner,” he explained.
With the EC fully prepared, the final declaration of the Ablekuma North parliamentary results now hinges on the Ghana Police Service’s readiness to ensure security at the collation center. Once the remaining results from the three polling stations are added, the EC will announce the official winner.
