Dr. Frank Bannor Urges President Mahama to Dismissing Sammy Gyamfi

 

In a recent interview with ABC News, Dr. Frank Bannor a Development Economist and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy has called on President John Dramani Mahama to act decisively by relieving Sammy Gyamfi of his position as CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). Dr. Bannor asserts that Mr. Gyamfi’s ostentatious display of wealth contravenes the President’s own Code of Ethics for appointees.

Dr. Bannor emphasized that President Mahama had previously launched a Code of Ethics which explicitly states that any appointee found engaging in a lavish lifestyle would face immediate dismissal. He pointed out that Mr. Gyamfi’s recent actions, including a viral video where he is seen counting what appears to be US$10,000 and handing it to a well-known figure, Mama Pat (also known as Agradaa), constitute a clear violation of this code.

If President Mahama is committed to the principles he has set forth he should take swift action to remove Sammy Gyamfi from his position, Dr. Bannor stated. He further quoted the President’s own words during the launch of the Code of Ethics: The hallmark of this government will be modesty and respect for the Ghanaian people. Resources that you’ll be working with belong to the Ghanaian people who put us in office. Those resources are not to be wasted on opulence and extravagance. Also, all traces of affluence and lavish lifestyle are to be avoided.

The incident has sparked widespread public outcry with many citizens and political commentators demanding accountability and adherence to the ethical standards set by the administration. Dr. Bannor’s call adds to the growing pressure on President Mahama to demonstrate his commitment to ethical governance by taking appropriate action against Mr. Gyamfi.
