Deborah Seyram Adablah Released from Prison After Serving 45-Day Sentence for Contempt

Former National Service personnel, Deborah Seyram Adablah has been released from prison after completing her 45-day sentence for contempt of court. Her release occurred on Thursday, June 19, 2025, bringing to a close a chapter of a case that has captured national attention since 2023.

Adablah was sentenced on May 6, 2025, by the Accra High Court after she was found guilty of making defamatory and prejudicial statements about the judiciary on social media. Her remarks which were directed at judges handling her civil case, were deemed a serious interference with the administration of justice, prompting the court to take action.

Despite the severity of the sentence, Adablah voluntarily turned herself in to authorities after the ruling, demonstrating her willingness to comply with the court’s decision.

Her legal troubles began in 2023, when she filed a civil lawsuit against banking executive Ernest Kwasi Nimako whom she described as a former partner. She accused him of breaching a promise made during their relationship and sought damages. The case quickly went viral, with many in the public and on social media dubbing it the side chick saga.

While Adablah has now served her jail time for contempt her civil case against Mr. Nimako is still ongoing. Legal experts say her conviction is a strong warning to the general public and litigants about the consequences of making disparaging public statements while legal matters are still before the court.

Following her release many Ghanaians are eager to see how she will move forward particularly in relation to her ongoing legal battles and how she conducts herself in the public eye.

Supporters have welcomed her release while critics remain vocal about the impact of her actions on the integrity of the judicial system. Either way, Deborah Seyram Adablah’s name remains etched in Ghana’s legal and media landscape, as her story continues to unfold.
