Court Confirms Annoh-Dompreh’s 2024 Victory

The High Court has officially dismissed an election petition filed against the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Hon. Samuel Annoh-Dompreh affirming his legitimacy as the elected representative for the constituency in the December 2020 parliamentary elections.

The petition which sought to challenge the validity of Annoh-Dompreh’s electoral win, was rejected due to a lack of sufficient evidence and procedural irregularities on the part of the petitioners. The court in delivering its ruling stated that allegations of vote buying and voter intimidation raised by the petitioners were unsubstantiated and did not meet the legal threshold to overturn an election result.

According to the presiding judge electoral petitions must be grounded in credible verifiable evidence and not speculative claims or hearsay. Legal analysts have praised the judgment noting that it upholds the integrity of Ghana’s democratic and judicial processes.

Hon. Annoh-Dompreh who currently serves as the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament expressed appreciation for the ruling and called for unity and development in the constituency. Speaking after the court’s decision, he said:

This ruling is not just a personal victory, but a confirmation of the will of the good people of Nsawam-Adoagyiri. I am grateful to the judiciary for its firm commitment to justice. Now is the time to come together and focus on what truly matters — development, peace, and progress.

The case which had been in court for several months, drew attention from both political observers and legal experts. Many have argued that the outcome reinforces the principle that democracy thrives when institutions operate independently and fairly.

Observers also believe the ruling will further strengthen Annoh-Dompreh’s position within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and enhance his influence as he prepares for future political contests.

With Ghana approaching another general election cycle in 2024 this ruling sets a precedent for electoral justice and highlights the need for all political actors to respect the judicial process. It also serves as a reminder to future petitioners of the importance of presenting concrete evidence when seeking to challenge election outcomes.

The Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency known for its active political engagement can now look forward to a renewed focus on governance and development initiatives under the leadership of their affirmed MP.
