Concerned Ghanaians Call for Deportation of Alleged Igbo King and Undocumented Nigerians

A group of concerned Ghanaians took to the streets of Accra this week in a peaceful walk calling on the government to take immediate action against what they describe as a growing threat posed by undocumented foreign nationals particularly some Nigerians residing in Ghana illegally.

The peace walk which started from Kwame Nkrumah Circle and ended at east Legon  was aimed at drawing the attention of national leaders to what participants claim is the rising involvement of some Nigerians in serious criminal activities in the country.

Nana Yaw Asante -One of the lead conveners

One of the lead conveners, Nana Yaw Asante spoke exclusively to mrwoodwe.com expressing the group’s frustration with what they see as increasing cases of kidnapping, cyber fraud, prostitution and car theft—many of which according to him involve foreign nationals especially Nigerians.

In recent times, whenever the police make arrests for crimes such as cyber fraud human trafficking and even murder it’s mostly Nigerians who are involved, Nana Yaw stated.

He cited a recent example where Ghana immigration service  arrested 50 Nigerians at McCarthy Hill a suburb of Accra on charges related to human trafficking and internet fraud. In another incident four Nigerians were reportedly arrested by Ghana police service at Ningo-Prampram for allegedly killing a driver after renting his vehicle and absconding with it.

The protesters also expressed concern over the presence of one Chuckwudi Jude Ihenetu a Nigerian national who claims to be the King of Igbos in Ghana. According to Nana Yaw Asante, the group believes that this claim is problematic and poses a potential risk to Ghana’s sovereignty and internal security.

He stated that Chuckwudi has granted several interviews where he claims to have purchased 50 acres of land at Old Ningo to build an Igbo village in Ghana including a palace and residential facilities for Igbos worldwide.

This man says every Igbo person has the right to come and live there but when he was summoned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs weeks ago he reportedly denied having such land. His interviews over the years contain many contradictions and we believe he cannot be trusted, Nana Yaw said.

The group is demanding that Chuckwudi Jude Ihenetu be deported along with any undocumented Nigerian nationals living in Ghana. They believe allowing such activities could encourage the development of ethnic enclaves that undermine national unity and law enforcement efforts.

Another concern raised by the protestors was the lack of response from the leadership of Ghana’s major political parties the NDC and NPP. They claim that despite the seriousness of the situation there has been little to no public statement or intervention from key national figures.

It’s only Dr. Hassan Ayariga the 2024 presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC) who has boldly spoken against the actions of the so-called Igbo King in Ghana. The silence of the others is worrying, Nana Yaw added.

The organizers say if the government fails to act swiftly—particularly in deporting undocumented foreign nationals and addressing the issue of the alleged Igbo King they will mobilize for a much larger demonstration in the coming weeks.

This is only the beginning. If the government ignores us we will continue to demonstrate until our leaders listen and act, Nana Yaw warned.
