Citizen Petitions Health Ministry Over Negligence at Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital

A Ghanaian citizen Ebenezer from the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District in the Central Region has petitioned the Ministry of Health calling for urgent intervention over what he describes as growing negligence by doctors and nurses at the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital.

In his petition Ebenezer expressed deep concern about the alleged frequent absenteeism and poor attitude of medical staff at the facility which he believes has contributed to avoidable patient deaths over the years.

Ebenezer stated that doctors at the hospital often skip working hours or fail to report for duty entirely even during critical emergencies. He further alleged that some nurses are frequently seen distracted by social media, including TikTok, even while patients are in distress.

My motive behind this petition is not political, religious or personal. It is a call for accountability and responsibility, he stated. I am a citizen and not a spectator and I believe it is my duty to help the government address this issue that has affected the performance of the hospital since 2014.”

According to the petitioner, the hospital’s poor service delivery and staff negligence have led to numerous preventable deaths. He stressed the urgent need for an investigation into the hospital’s operations including the conduct of its doctors, nurses and management.

Ebenezer’s petition highlights concerns about staff failing to adhere to the expected 8-hour shifts they are paid to work and the lack of adequate supervision especially during emergencies.

The petition addressed to the Ministry of Health calls for an immediate investigation into the facility and disciplinary actions where necessary. Ebenezer believes that swift government intervention could help prevent further loss of life and improve healthcare delivery in the district.

He concluded his appeal by urging the Ministry to take the matter seriously to save lives and restore confidence in the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital.

This development adds to ongoing public discourse about the state of healthcare in Ghana particularly in underserved districts and underscores the need for continued monitoring and accountability in public health facilities.
