Chamber of Licensed Gold Buyers Applauds Ghana Gold Board for Extending License Transition Deadline

The Chamber of Licensed Gold Buyers (CLGB) has commended the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) for its decision to extend the deadline for the transition to the new gold trading license regime.

In a press release signed by the Chief Executive Officer of CLGB, Mr. Kwaku Amoah, the Chamber expressed its deep appreciation to the GOLDBOD for responding positively to numerous petitions from stakeholders within the gold trading value chain. The extension provides relief and clarity to individuals and entities currently operating under licenses issued by the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

Originally, license holders were required to transition to the new regulatory framework by May 21, 2025. However, the GOLDBOD has now extended this deadline to June 21, 2025, allowing more time for proper alignment with the revised regulations.

This decision is a clear indication of the Ghana Gold Board’s commitment to stakeholder engagement, participatory governance, and the sustainable development of Ghana’s gold trading sector,” the statement noted.

Mr. Amoah described the extension not just as a shift in dates, but as a strategic opportunity that enables license holders to transition smoothly without disrupting their operations.

We commend the Ghana Gold Board for demonstrating that it is a responsive and listening institution. This extension reflects the Board’s willingness to collaborate with stakeholders and its dedication to ensuring an inclusive and smooth transition process,” he said.

The Chamber further encouraged all licensed operators and industry participants to take full advantage of the extension to regularize their operations and meet the new licensing requirements.

We urge every stakeholder in the sector to utilize this extended window effectively. Full compliance with the updated framework is essential in building a more structured, transparent, and robust gold trading ecosystem,” Mr. Amoah added.

The CLGB also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ghana Gold Board and other regulatory authorities to safeguard the integrity of the gold trading industry and to promote ethical and legal practices across the mineral value chain.

This extension by the GOLDBOD has been widely welcomed as a progressive move, aimed at fostering trust and collaboration in one of Ghana’s most vital sectors.
