Burniton Music Group PRO Clears Air on Stonebwoy-Peller Unfollow Controversy

The Public Relations Officer of Burniton Music Group, Vida Adutwumwaa has spoken out in response to recent criticisms directed at award-winning dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy over his alleged decision to unfollow Nigerian social media influencer, Peller.

The issue gained traction on social media after Stonebwoy engaged in a TikTok live session with Peller ahead of his UK concert on March 8, 2025. During the session, Stonebwoy extended a warm invitation to Peller to join his album tour—an act that was initially received with excitement by fans. However, the collaboration quickly drew backlash from a section of Ghanaian netizens who accused Stonebwoy of favouring Nigerian content creators over Ghanaian influencers.

Tensions escalated when Peller later disclosed during another TikTok live session that Stonebwoy had unfollowed him speculating that the action might be linked to his recent online interactions with Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale, a known rival of Stonebwoy.

In an exclusive interview with Onua FM on April 10, 2025, Vida Adutwumwaa addressed the controversy clarifying that Stonebwoy does not directly handle his own social media accounts.

We have a dedicated team responsible for managing Stonebwoy’s social media platforms. At any given time, two or more people are in charge and not every activity or action taken is directly reported to Stonebwoy, she explained.

According to Adutwumwaa the social media team’s primary mandate is to promote Stonebwoy’s music and maintain his brand visibility. Our social media content is largely focused on Stonebwoy’s music and activities aimed at enhancing his brand. Only major issues requiring his personal attention are brought to him, she added.

She also emphasized that decisions regarding who to follow or unfollow on social media are at the sole discretion of the team managing the accounts and are not made to target or offend any individual.

Following or unfollowing someone is not done to target any artiste or personality. These decisions are mostly operational. If Stonebwoy wishes to establish or maintain a relationship with a particular individual, we accommodate that,” she clarified.

The Burniton Music Group PRO’s comments aim to douse the flames surrounding the incident and redirect attention back to the artiste’s ongoing projects including his international tour and forthcoming album.

Stonebwoy, known for his global appeal and cross-border collaborations, has yet to personally comment on the issue. However, the management’s clarification provides insight into how his online presence is curated and maintained.

As conversations around local support for Ghanaian content creators continue, fans and stakeholders alike are urged to appreciate the complexities of celebrity branding and the roles management teams play in shaping digital interactions.
