Bukom Banku Reveals Why He Did Not Fast During Ramadan

Ghanaian boxer-turned-musician, Bukom Banku, has openly stated that he did not observe the Ramadan fast this year, citing personal reasons rather than health concerns.

In an interview on Max TV Bukom Banku known for his outspoken nature revealed that he simply could not go without food making it difficult for him to participate in the religious exercise.

I am a Muslim but I have told Ghanaians that I cannot fast. So I gave people money to fast on my behalf, he disclosed.

Ramadan is a sacred month in the Islamic faith characterized by fasting from dawn to sunset, prayer and deep spiritual reflection. It is believed to be the period when the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad. While fasting is an essential obligation for Muslims certain exemptions apply to individuals who are unable to observe it due to legitimate reasons such as health conditions or travel.

However Bukom Banku clarified that his decision not to fast was purely personal and not related to any medical condition. Instead, he found his own way of contributing to the spiritual exercise by supporting others who fasted.

When I wake up in the morning and I have not eaten I don’t like it. It gives me stomach issues. I know myself better than anyone else, he explained.

He further noted that members of his community were already aware of his stance on fasting and had come to accept it over the years. Despite not fasting, Bukom Banku stated that he remained committed to the values of Ramadan by helping those who observed the fast.

Shedding more light on his eating habits, he added, I eat early in the morning, afternoon, evening, and later at night.’

His remarks have sparked discussions among Ghanaians with some supporting his approach while others believe fasting is a personal commitment that should be observed regardless of individual challenges.

Nonetheless Bukom Banku remains firm in his belief that his method of participating in Ramadan—by giving to those who fast—aligns with Islamic teachings, showing that faith can be expressed in different ways.
