Breaking News: Alan Kyerematen Is Back To NPP Ahead of 2028 Elections
Prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) member and Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has called for renewed unity within the NPP as the party begins early preparations toward the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post on Friday, April 11, 2025, Nkansah extended a heartfelt welcome to former NPP stalwart and leader of the Movement for Change Alan Kyerematen who has reportedly made a return to the party.
A united NPP will make a 2028 win much easier Nkansah stated emphasizing the need for reconciliation and collective strength within the party. He added, Chief Alan and all those who left are welcome back to the Elephant family. Nkansah affectionately ended his message with the phrase Once an Osonoba… a title fondly associated with Kyerematen.
Alan Kyerematen a former Minister for Trade and Industry and once a key figure in the NPP exited the party in 2023 after losing the flagbearership race to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Following his departure, he launched the Movement for Change and contested as an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Although his bid was unsuccessful with NDC’s John Dramani Mahama securing victory Kyerematen’s campaign left a lasting impact on Ghana’s political discourse promoting a vision of politics beyond the traditional NPP-NDC rivalry.
His return to the NPP has sparked conversations within political circles with many seeing it as a strategic move to consolidate the party ahead of the next electoral cycle. Nkansah’s public show of support indicates a growing desire within the party’s rank and file to heal past divisions and build a formidable force for 2028.
Several party insiders and grassroots supporters have welcomed the development describing it as a sign of political maturity and foresight. Political analysts also note that reuniting with influential figures like Kyerematen could bolster the NPP’s chances in the next election, particularly as the party seeks to recapture power after its loss in 2024.
With Kofi Ofosu Nkansah’s message setting the tone it appears that the NPP is keen on fostering internal cohesion and mobilizing all its resources toward a strong comeback in 2028.
