Bernard Aduse Poku Credits Andy Dosty for Launching His Entertainment Career

Ghanaian actor Bernard Aduse Poku has paid glowing tribute to veteran broadcaster and DJ Andy Dosty, crediting him as the key figure who launched his career in the entertainment industry. The actor, best known for his chilling role as Koo Musuo in the hit movie Asem, made the revelation during an interview on The Delay Show.

Reflecting on his early days after completing secondary school, Bernard recounted a fateful encounter with Andy Dosty that changed the course of his life. Andy picked me like a younger brother, he said. He told me to come on radio anytime I was free, and that’s how I became a pundit on his show.

At the time, Andy Dosty was a prominent radio presenter at Otec FM in Kumasi, and it was through his platform that Bernard got his first taste of the spotlight. The actor’s breakthrough role in Asem saw him play Koo Musuo, a ruthless and unforgettable villain. According to Bernard, it was Andy Dosty’s consistent references to the character on his radio show that catapulted him to national recognition.

There’s a movie called Asem where I played ‘Koo Musuo’—that was what made me popular, and that’s because Andy Dosty always referred to me by that name on radio, he explained. That movie was really huge. It had legends like Santo and Judas.

Beyond his own story, Bernard praised Andy Dosty’s rare gift for discovering and nurturing talent. “There is something about him—maybe he hasn’t even realized it—his ability to spot potential in people,” he noted.

Interestingly, Bernard isn’t the only star who owes part of their success to Andy Dosty. The media veteran also played a key role in the early days of Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay. In a Facebook post, Andy once shared how he introduced Delay to DJing at a nightclub after meeting her through a mutual friend. I quickly dragged her into the DJ’s booth and handed the CD decks to her—and she drove revelers crazy, he recalled.

These stories underline Andy Dosty’s broader impact on Ghana’s entertainment scene—not just as a radio and TV personality, but as a talent incubator with an eye for greatness. From the streets of Ashtown, Kumasi to the national stage his influence continues to shape the careers of rising stars and household names alike.

As Bernard Aduse Poku continues to evolve as an actor and public figure, his heartfelt tribute to Andy Dosty stands as a reminder of the importance of mentorship and the powerful ripple effects of giving others a chance.
