Beatrice Annan Denies Claims by Dr. Bawumia’s Aide on IMF Meeting with NDC Leadership

A member of the Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Beatrice Annan, has categorically rejected claims made by Krobea Kwabena Asante, an aide to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, regarding discussions held during a recent meeting between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the leadership of the NDC.

The meeting, which took place on January 9, 2025, was attended by former President John Dramani Mahama, former Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and other high-ranking NDC officials. The discussion focused on addressing Ghana’s current economic challenges.

Shortly after the meeting, Krobea Kwabena Asante took to his Facebook page to allege that the IMF made three significant claims during the discussions. According to him, these included:
1. Ghana’s economy is in good shape.
2. The banking sector cleanup initiated by the previous government cannot be reversed.
3. The IMF supports the economic direction of the current government.

However, Beatrice Annan, who stated that she was present at the meeting, has firmly dismissed these claims as false. In a Facebook post, she denied the accuracy of Asante’s statements, asserting that none of the issues he mentioned were discussed during the meeting.

Ms. Annan criticized Asante for spreading misinformation and urged the public to disregard his assertions. “It is disappointing that individuals entrusted with positions of influence resort to fabrications for political gain,” she stated.

She further clarified that the meeting with the IMF revolved around practical solutions to Ghana’s economic challenges and strategies to restore stability. According to her, the NDC leadership remains committed to ensuring transparency and addressing the pressing concerns of Ghanaians.

This development comes at a time when Ghana’s economic situation continues to dominate national discourse, with political actors from all sides proposing different strategies to resolve the crisis.

Meanwhile, neither the IMF nor any official representative has issued a statement to corroborate or refute the claims made by either side.

Observers are calling for caution in political commentary to avoid unnecessary tension and to focus on constructive discussions aimed at resolving Ghana’s economic challenges.
