Angel Broadcasting Network Apologizes for Misinformation on Ghana Gold Board Bill

Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN) has issued an official apology to the Government of Ghana officials of the Gold Board and the general public for broadcasting incorrect information about the Gold Board’s mandate and the recently passed Ghana Gold Board Bill 2025.

The Gold Board (GoldBod) is a government initiative aimed at regulating the gold industry ensuring transparency and traceability and increasing foreign exchange earnings. Its primary responsibility includes overseeing the purchase, sale, and export of gold while generating revenue to help stabilize the Ghanaian cedi. The initiative is also expected to play a key role in formalizing gold trading within the small-scale mining sector and improving Ghana’s efforts to secure recognition from the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA).

Recently, a news anchor from ABN falsely claimed that the Gold Board Bill 2025 criminalizes the wearing of gold ornaments by Chiefs and Queen Mothers. However, after further verification, ABN realized that this statement was inaccurate. The media house has since issued a public apology and retracted the misleading information.

In a statement shared on the official Facebook page of Angel FM, ABN acknowledged the error and assured the public of its commitment to upholding the highest journalistic standards.

Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN) extends its sincerest apologies to the Government of Ghana, officials of the Gold Board, and all well-meaning citizens for the incorrect information recently aired regarding the mandate and activities of the Gold Board. Upon further verification, we acknowledge that aspects of our report were inaccurate and may have misrepresented the work of the board. We deeply regret the misinformation this report has caused,” the statement read.

The media conglomerate further emphasized its dedication to fairness, accuracy, and responsible journalism in future reports.

The establishment of the Gold Board is a significant step toward regulating Ghana’s gold trade. By ensuring proper documentation and transparency in gold transactions, the board will help curb illegal mining activities and enhance Ghana’s position in the global gold market.

With the passage of the Ghana Gold Board Bill 2025, the government seeks to formalize the small-scale mining sector, enhance revenue collection, and ensure that gold trading contributes significantly to the national economy.

The swift apology from Angel Broadcasting Network highlights the importance of media responsibility in shaping public opinion and policy discussions. While misinformation can cause confusion, ABN’s retraction and commitment to truthful reporting set a good example for other media outlets.

As Ghana moves forward with its Gold Board initiative, it remains essential for journalists and media houses to verify information before dissemination, ensuring that the public receives accurate and credible news.
