Alex Tetteh, President of Citizen Eye Ghana and a known member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come forward to clarify the circumstances surrounding the recent arrest of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

In an interview with Mac Jerry Osei Agyemang on Neat FM monitored by mrwoode.com on 28th May 2025 Tetteh revealed that he personally initiated the legal steps that led to Wontumi’s arrest. According to him, on 25th April 2020, he officially wrote a letter to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), and the Ghana Police Service, requesting an investigation into certain alleged misconduct by Chairman Wontumi.

Tetteh dismissed claims that former President John Dramani Mahama was behind the arrest, calling such allegations misleading and politically motivated. “I was the one who filed the complaint. I gave the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) directions to Wontumi’s house. This is not a political matter—it is a personal issue I pursued based on facts and evidence, he stated.

He further stressed that his actions were not influenced by political rivalry but were based on his conviction that justice should prevail, irrespective of one’s political affiliation or status in society.

Chairman Wontumi, a prominent NPP regional chairman and influential political figure, has been a controversial personality in Ghanaian politics. His recent arrest sparked widespread public debate, with some linking it to political retaliation. However, Tetteh’s revelation adds a new dimension to the narrative, positioning the matter within the framework of individual accountability rather than partisan politics.

This development has stirred further discussions on the role of civic organizations and private citizens in holding public figures accountable in Ghana’s democratic space. Many are now calling for transparency in the investigation process and urging institutions to act fairly and independently.

As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how it will impact the political climate, especially within the NPP, and whether more revelations will surface regarding the actions that led to Chairman Wontumi’s arrest.
